Brainspotting: Supporting Brain and Body Awareness

Brainspotting is a therapy developed by Dr. David Grand. It is a body-centered, experiential approach that emphasizes noticing internal experiences, including thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.

Key Brain & Body Areas Involved

Brainspotting involves attention to several areas of the brain and body:• Midbrain / Brainstem: Involved in automatic responses such as fight, flight, or freeze.• Limbic System (Amygdala, Hippocampus, Hypothalamus): Associated with emotions and memory.• Insula: Connects bodily sensations with awareness.• Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC): Plays a role in attention and emotional responses.• Thalamus & Pulvinar: Act as sensory gateways between body and brain.• Prefrontal Cortex: Involved in reflection, planning, and decision-making.Important Notes
• Brainspotting is not a cure and does not replace medical care.
• Sessions provide a structured, mindful space for noticing and attending to thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations.• Brainspotting is designed to support exploration of internal experiences at your own pace, with attention to present-moment experience and without pressure or judgment.
